Food-filled

A fun and food-filled weekend was had by all. I was in charge of the food for the "County Fair" for our neighborhood/church party on Friday night and the menu was not exactly my style but I think it was well received by most, especially the kids. 100 Corn dogs, 150 churros, snow cones, cotton, candy, etc.. were the order of the night. I don't think I'll be eating any "fair" food for a while, I was up to my elbows in Corn dogs for too many hours. I cooked quite a bit this weekend and believe that the hardest part of cooking is timing. To keep everything warm and completed at the appropriate time is not easy and often calls for multiple ovens (wouldn't that be nice). There was also a chili cook-off that I entered. I made a spicy turkey chili that I thought could perhaps capture the first place ribbon. I was quite dismayed when I asked who the winner was they said "Everyone was awarded first place, they were all great". Now I know I'm quite a competitive girl, but come on, I would have been happier with 3rd place than ...Everyone's a winner... Lame! Maybe next year. :) The BYU game was fun and Audrey loved the licorice as you can see.

We had some friends over for dinner on Saturday and the "menu" I'd been thinking about all week turned out great, if I do say so myself. The ribs were pretty good, but still need a little work. Jer was in charge of the BBQ and I have to admit it is pretty hard to live up to the Moore Family BBQ ribs. I don't think I had them in the oven long enough and we needed to blacken them up a little more. As Jeremy said, we have many more years to perfect this art.

I love color, I love the summer, I love the heat, I love being outside. I set the table especially summery and bright because I feel the clutches of fall moving upon us. As much as I love the fall, I know what follows, lack of color, heat, summer, and being outside. But on a positive note, it's still beautiful, sunny, and bright.
